New Hudson is an unincorporated community in Lyon Charter Township, Oakland County, Michigan, centered around the junction of Grand River Avenue, Pontiac Trail, and South Milford Road, just south of Interstate 96. The community has deep roots in Michigan history. In 1830, Russell Alvord and Daniel Richards, both from New York, obtained forty acres of land through a deed signed by President Andrew Jackson. The following year, they opened an inn called the Old Tavern, which still operates today as the New Hudson Inn. This establishment served as a changing station on the New Hudson Station stage coach line, an important stop for travelers passing through the region. The community was formally platted by Alvord in 1837, and a stage line post office was established in 1834, followed by a U.S. government post office in June 1852. Today, New Hudson continues to serve as a commercial hub for the area, home to businesses including Pratt Miller Engineering, which operates the Corvette Racing motorsports team. The New Hudson Post Office, with ZIP code 48165, serves the north central portion of Lyon Charter Township, which had a population of 23,271 at the 2020 census.
