Espanola is an unincorporated community in Spokane County, Washington, situated eighteen miles west-southwest of downtown Spokane. The community adopted its current name in 1900 and was once designated as one of the county's forty-seven townships during the early to mid-twentieth century. Today, Espanola is a small settlement consisting of little more than a handful of buildings and a grain elevator, surrounded by the farmland that characterizes the region.
The landscape around Espanola reflects the distinctive geography of the Channeled Scablands of the Columbia Plateau, featuring mostly treeless, lightly rolling terrain. The nearby city of Medical Lake, located four miles southeast, serves as the closest community and source of services for residents.
