Leawood is a city in Johnson County, Kansas, and part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. With a 2020 census population of 33,902, it has grown significantly since its modern establishment in the 1920s. The city was named for Oscar G. Lee, a retired police chief from Oklahoma who moved to Johnson County and supervised the construction of Lee Boulevard. Today, Leawood spans 15.16 square miles and is bordered by Kansas City, Missouri to the east, Prairie Village to the north and northwest, and Overland Park to the west and south.
