If you've got a car sitting in your driveway that you don't want anymore, the hardest part is over — you've already decided to let it go. Joe's Cash For Cars makes everything after that as simple as it gets. You call, we make you an offer, you say yes, we show up and pay you on the spot. That's it.
We buy cars for cash all over Calais and the surrounding Washington County area — running or not, any make, any model, free towing, scheduled pickup.
A lot of people assume their old car isn't worth much — especially if it doesn't run, has body damage, or has been sitting for a while. But we buy cars in every kind of condition, and we almost always pay more than people expect. Give us a call at 619-762-2001 and find out exactly what your car is worth.
There's no shortage of people who claim they'll buy your car — but a lot of them will lowball you, ghost you after the inspection, or show up with a completely different number than what they quoted. We don't operate that way.
We service every part of Calais, including:
Three steps from your first call to getting paid. No runaround, no hidden fees.
Tell us your car's year, make, model, and condition. We give you a real offer in under two minutes — no callbacks, no pressure.
Accept the offer and pick a time that works for you — often the same day or next. We come right to you in Calais — home, work, wherever. You don't move an inch.
Our driver brings all the paperwork, handles the tow, and pays you before they leave. Under 30 minutes, start to finish.
Some car-buying services quote you high to get you interested, then the driver shows up and suddenly there's a problem with the catalytic converter or the transmission mounts and the offer drops by $300. We've heard this story from Calais customers dozens of times. Our quote is based on an honest assessment, and that's the number we show up with — period.
Once you accept your offer, we'll set up a pickup time that works for you — often the same day or next day, especially if you're anywhere in Calais or the surrounding Washington County area. We run routes here regularly, so scheduling is rarely an issue. Give us a call and we'll lock in a time.
Transferring a car in Maine involves more forms than most people expect — especially if the title isn't straightforward or there's an outstanding loan. Our drivers carry everything, know the process cold, and make sure it's all done correctly so you're not on the hook for anything down the road.
After we buy your vehicle in Calais, it's either resold, parted out, or recycled through licensed facilities that meet all Maine environmental regulations. We never abandon vehicles or dump them — every car we buy is handled responsibly.

Calais is a city in Washington County, Maine, with a 2020 population of 3,079, making it the largest municipality by population in the county. The city sits at the head of tide on the St. Croix River and maintains three border crossings connecting it to St. Stephen, New Brunswick. Today, Calais serves as the primary shopping center for eastern Washington County and Charlotte County in New Brunswick, with its economy centered on retail, service, and construction businesses.
The area was home to indigenous peoples for thousands of years before European contact, particularly the Passamaquoddy people of the Wabanaki Confederacy. French explorer Samuel de Champlain first visited in 1604, though permanent settlement did not begin until Daniel Hill arrived in 1779. In 1809, Plantation Number 5 PS was incorporated as Calais, named after Calais, France, in honor of French support during the American Revolution. The St. Croix River powered the town's early industrial growth, supporting sawmills, clapboard and shingle mills, grain mills, foundries, machine shops, and various other manufacturers including shoe factories and tanneries.
The Calais Railroad, incorporated in 1832 and built in 1835, was the first railroad constructed in Maine. Calais was officially incorporated as a city in 1850. The town developed a notably close relationship with neighboring St. Stephen, with the communities maintaining strong ties across many years. The Calais Free Library, designed by Boston architect Arthur H. Vinal, opened in 1893 and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001. Today, Calais serves as the northern terminus of the East Coast Greenway.
