Surry is a town in Cheshire County in southwestern New Hampshire, nestled among several neighboring communities including Alstead, Gilsum, Keene, Westmoreland, and Walpole. The town was chartered in 1769 and named for Charles Howard, the 10th Duke of Norfolk and Earl of Surrey. When the first census was conducted in Surry in 1790, it counted 448 residents.
