Pocono Pines is a census-designated place in Monroe County, Pennsylvania, nestled in the heart of the Pocono Mountains. With a population of 2,007 at the 2020 census, the community has grown steadily, increasing from 1,409 residents in 2010. Covering 4.4 square miles, Pocono Pines is home to two notable communities: Lake Naomi and Pinecrest Lake.
The area's development began in the 1890s when the Miller family and others organized the Pocono Spring Water Ice Company. In September 1895, they constructed a 14-foot dam across Tunkhannock Creek, creating Lake Naomi, a lake stretching more than a mile long and approximately one-third of a mile wide. By 1902, the lake had become a popular destination for visitors from New York City and Philadelphia, attracting summer cottagers, a girls' sailing camp, and the Lutheran retreat known as Lutherland. The community developed various recreational amenities, including a boathouse and beach built in 1921.
In 1963, the Logan Steele family purchased 2,600 acres surrounding the lake and established Lake Naomi Club, a resort community now owned and governed by its approximately 1,400 member families. Today, the 277-acre Lake Naomi offers private beaches, marinas, three pools including an Olympic-sized pool, and eighteen tennis courts. Route 940 serves as the main thoroughfare through Pocono Pines, with various businesses concentrated at its intersection with Route 423. The community is served by the Pocono Mountain School District.
