The Town of Frederick is a Statutory Town located in Weld County, Colorado, positioned within the Greeley Metropolitan Statistical Area and the Front Range Urban Corridor. Originally named McKissick after a mine owner, the town was renamed in 1907 when the daughters of land owner Frederick A. Clark laid out the town site in his honor. Incorporated that same year, Frederick developed as a coal mining community that drew immigrants from Italy, France, Greece, Turkey, various Slavic countries, and Latin America. The Frederick Coal mine, which anchored the local economy, operated until its closure in 1960. In 2014, the town undertook a rebranding effort, designing a logo featuring a stylized gas lamp with a mountain range background and adopting the tagline "Built on What Matters."
Frederick has experienced significant growth in recent decades. The 2020 census recorded a population of 14,513 residents, representing a 67.22 percent increase from the 2010 census count of 8,679. The town encompasses 9,742 acres and is part of the Carbon Valley region alongside its adjacent communities of Firestone to the north and Dacono to the south. These three towns are collectively known as the Tri-Towns.
