Dacono is a home rule city in southwestern Weld County, Colorado, with roots reaching back more than a century. The city's unique name comes from an amalgamation of the first names of three women: Daisy Baum, Cora Van Vorhies, and Nora Brooks, who were wives of local coal mine operators. First settled in 1901, Dacono grew as early residents came to work in the coal mines that defined the region's economy. The town established its post office on December 21, 1907, and was formally incorporated on September 23, 1908.
