Evans is a home rule city in Weld County, Colorado, named for John Evans, the second Territorial Governor of Colorado. The town was settled in 1867, and its post office opened on May 16, 1870. Evans served as the Weld County seat from 1870 to 1874 and again from 1875 to 1877, when Greeley ultimately claimed the honor. Local legend tells of night-riders from Greeley stealing county records and burning down the courthouse. The town was officially incorporated on November 15, 1885.

The city is part of the Greeley Metropolitan Statistical Area and the Front Range Urban Corridor.
