Eaton is a small town in Carroll County, New Hampshire with a population of 405 as of the 2020 census. The town was incorporated in 1766 by colonial Governor Benning Wentworth and named for Governor Theophilus Eaton of Connecticut, who contributed generously to the settlement of Massachusetts in 1630 before establishing New Haven Colony alongside Reverend John Davenport and David Yale, great-grandfather of Yale University's founder.
The town encompasses 25.6 square miles and includes the villages of Eaton Center and Snowville. Snowville takes its name from the Snow family, who established a sawmill there in 1825. Eaton Center is home to the "Little White Church," a notable town landmark. The area features two principal lakes: Conway Lake on the northern boundary and Crystal Lake in the center. Crystal Lake is also home to Waukeela, a summer camp for girls that has operated in Eaton for 104 years as of 2026 on 45 acres of land.
The town's geography is characterized by rolling terrain within the Saco River watershed. The highest elevation in Eaton reaches 1,730 feet above sea level on the southern boundary, near Cragged Mountain.
