Woodruff is an unincorporated community located in Navajo County, Arizona, situated approximately 10.5 miles southeast of Holbrook. The community has maintained its own post office, carrying the ZIP code 85942.
The settlement of Woodruff began in 1876 when a group of members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints established a community under the leadership of Nathan Tenney, with his son Ammon M. Tenney participating in the founding effort. Originally known as Tenney's Settlement, the community underwent a name change in 1878 following the arrival of Lorenzo H. Hatch, who became the head of the local LDS branch. The new name, Woodruff, was chosen to honor Wilford Woodruff.
By the 2010 census, Woodruff had grown modestly to a population of 191 people distributed among 65 households and 49 families. Today, students in the community are served by the Holbrook Unified School District, with Holbrook High School designated as the zoned high school for the area. Though small and unincorporated, Woodruff remains an established community with its own postal services and educational connections to the broader Holbrook area.
