Brownsdale is a small city in northwestern Mower County, Minnesota, located about nine miles northeast of Austin, the county seat. The city was platted in 1856 and named after Andrew D. Brown, a businessman in the lumber industry. A post office began operating in Brownsdale in 1857, and the city was formally incorporated in 1876. Today, Brownsdale has a population of 633 residents, according to the 2020 census.
