Terrell is an unincorporated community in Catawba County, North Carolina, situated along North Carolina Highway 150 near the intersection with Sherrills Ford Road. Since the 2010 census, it has been part of the Lake Norman of Catawba Census Designated Place. The community takes its name from Pinckney Lawson Terrell, a circuit-riding Methodist preacher who lived from 1853 to 1926 and was connected to the nearby Rehoboth Methodist Church. A post office was established in the community in 1893 at the T.F. Connor store, named after Terrell because of his reputation for paying his debts. The Terrell Historic District is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and once centered around the Terrell Country Store, built in 1891, which served as a focal point for trade and commerce until its removal in 2020. In recent decades, Terrell has experienced infrastructure development, with water and sewer lines installed in 2013 and 2014, and a new library opening in 2014. A Publix Supermarket opened in February 2018 at the intersection of NC 150 and Slanting Bridge Road. Today, Terrell is home to approximately 860 residents across 332 households, many of whom commute to nearby Charlotte. The community maintains its connection to Lake Norman, offering lake-centric activities and businesses, and serves as a suburban location for those working in the Charlotte metropolitan area.
