Skandia Township is a civil township located on the eastern edge of Marquette County in Michigan, bordering Alger County to the east. Spanning 72.10 square miles, the township is home to approximately 810 residents according to the 2020 census. Carlshend was founded in 1893 by Karl Petros Janssen, who intended to name it "Carlslund" before the post office altered it to its current name. When the post office opened in 1929, it remained operational periodically until 1963. The other communities within the township are Skandia, Lawson, Maple Grove, Selma, and Vick. The township has produced notable individuals, including William Lincoln Bakewell, an Antarctic explorer, and Mike Shaw, a professional wrestler.
