Why Mountain City Residents Choose Joe's

There's no shortage of people who claim they'll buy your car — but a lot of them will lowball you, ghost you after the inspection, or show up with a completely different number than what they quoted. We don't operate that way.

  • We show up on time and come to you, throughout Mountain City
  • We bring all the DMV paperwork — you sign and you're done

Why Joe's Cash For Cars in Mountain City?

We Do It Right — Every Time

We Pay What We Quote — Guaranteed

Some car-buying services quote you high to get you interested, then the driver shows up and suddenly there's a problem with the catalytic converter or the transmission mounts and the offer drops by $300. We've heard this story from Mountain City customers dozens of times. Our quote is based on an honest assessment, and that's the number we show up with — period.

Scheduling Your Pickup in Mountain City

Once you accept your offer, we'll set up a pickup time that works for you — often the same day or next day, especially if you're anywhere in Mountain City or the surrounding Johnson County area. We run routes here regularly, so scheduling is rarely an issue. Give us a call and we'll lock in a time.

We Handle All the Paperwork

Transferring a car in Tennessee involves more forms than most people expect — especially if the title isn't straightforward or there's an outstanding loan. Our drivers carry everything, know the process cold, and make sure it's all done correctly so you're not on the hook for anything down the road.

What Happens to Your Car

After we buy your vehicle in Mountain City, it's either resold, parted out, or recycled through licensed facilities that meet all Tennessee environmental regulations. We never abandon vehicles or dump them — every car we buy is handled responsibly.

A Little About Mountain City

The Story of Mountain City, TN

Mountain City, the county seat of Johnson County, Tennessee, sits at an elevation of 2,418 feet, making it the highest incorporated city in the state. With a population of 2,415 as of the 2020 census, it is also the northeasternmost county seat in Tennessee, positioned among one of the state's highest valleys surrounded by Doe Mountain, Forge Mountain, and the Iron Mountains.

The area's history stretches back centuries. Well-worn Native American trails passed through the region when European explorers first arrived in the late 17th century, and the Needham and Arthur expedition of 1673 is believed to have crossed through the area. Daniel Boone used the same gap at Trade on his 1769 expedition to Kentucky, and part of the Daniel Boone Heritage Trail still passes through Mountain City today. Permanent white settlement began in the late 18th century with pioneers including Leonard Shoun and Revolutionary War veteran Alexander Doran.

Originally part of Carter County, the area's remoteness from Elizabethton prompted the creation of Johnson County in 1836. That same year, the county seat was platted on William Vaught's land and named Taylorsville after Colonel James P. Taylor. The town took the name Mountain City in 1885, reportedly at the suggestion of prominent citizen and U.S. Congressman Roderick R. Butler, whose mansion still stands near downtown on the National Register of Historic Places.

In May 1925, Mountain City hosted the first Mountain City Fiddlers Convention, a landmark event in Appalachian music history that significantly influenced the development of country music.
