Maysville is a town straddling Garvin and McClain counties in Oklahoma. Located in northern Garvin County on the south side of the Washita River valley, the community traces its roots to 1878 when a post office was first established at this location. Originally named Beef Creek after the nearby tributary of the Washita River, the town relocated about a mile north in 1902 to position itself alongside the newly constructed Kiowa, Chickasha and Fort Smith Railway, an affiliate of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. With this move came a name change to Maysville, honoring local ranchers David Mayes and John Mayes. At the time of its founding, the area was part of Pickens County in the Chickasaw Nation. Today, Oklahoma State Highway 19 runs through the center of town as 6th Street, connecting Maysville to nearby communities including Pauls Valley to the southeast and Lindsay to the west. According to the 2020 census, Maysville had a population of 1,087, representing a decline from 1,232 in 2010. The town covers approximately 1.9 square miles and is surrounded by rural landscape characteristic of the region.
