Loreauville is a village in Iberia Parish with a population of 658 residents as of the 2020 census, down from 938 in 2000. Located in northern Iberia Parish on the east side of Bayou Teche, it sits eight miles northeast of New Iberia and nine miles southeast of St. Martinville. The village's name has evolved through its history, beginning as Fausse Pointe before becoming Dugasville when the Dugas family opened a trading post there. It was later called Picouville after a Picou family member donated land for a chapel, until April 15, 1871, when it was renamed Loreauville to honor Ozaire Loreau, who contributed property for the old Catholic church and cemetery and supported the village's agricultural, industrial, and political development.
