Llano, also known as Llano de San Juan, is an unincorporated community nestled in Taos County, New Mexico. Situated on New Mexico State Road 73 just 2.1 miles south of Peñasco, this small settlement occupies land within the historic Las Trampas Land Grant, which traces its roots back to 1751. The community itself was established in 1796 after Governor Fernando Chacon authorized settlement in the valley. Llano's location places it roughly two miles from the scenic High Road to Taos, in a valley along the Rio Santa Barbara on the western side of the Sangre de Cristo mountains. The community has a postal history spanning more than a century—a post office operated here from 1898 until 1914, when it ceased operations. The mail service was restored in 1925 and has continued since then.
