If you've got a car sitting in your driveway that you don't want anymore, the hardest part is over — you've already decided to let it go. Joe's Cash For Cars makes everything after that as simple as it gets. You call, we make you an offer, you say yes, we show up and pay you on the spot. That's it.
We buy cars for cash all over Challis and the surrounding Custer County area — running or not, any make, any model, free towing, scheduled pickup.
A lot of people assume their old car isn't worth much — especially if it doesn't run, has body damage, or has been sitting for a while. But we buy cars in every kind of condition, and we almost always pay more than people expect. Give us a call at 619-762-2001 and find out exactly what your car is worth.
There's no shortage of people who claim they'll buy your car — but a lot of them will lowball you, ghost you after the inspection, or show up with a completely different number than what they quoted. We don't operate that way.
We service every part of Challis, including:
Three steps from your first call to getting paid. No runaround, no hidden fees.
Tell us your car's year, make, model, and condition. We give you a real offer in under two minutes — no callbacks, no pressure.
Accept the offer and pick a time that works for you — often the same day or next. We come right to you in Challis — home, work, wherever. You don't move an inch.
Our driver brings all the paperwork, handles the tow, and pays you before they leave. Under 30 minutes, start to finish.
Some car-buying services quote you high to get you interested, then the driver shows up and suddenly there's a problem with the catalytic converter or the transmission mounts and the offer drops by $300. We've heard this story from Challis customers dozens of times. Our quote is based on an honest assessment, and that's the number we show up with — period.
Once you accept your offer, we'll set up a pickup time that works for you — often the same day or next day, especially if you're anywhere in Challis or the surrounding Custer County area. We run routes here regularly, so scheduling is rarely an issue. Give us a call and we'll lock in a time.
Transferring a car in Idaho involves more forms than most people expect — especially if the title isn't straightforward or there's an outstanding loan. Our drivers carry everything, know the process cold, and make sure it's all done correctly so you're not on the hook for anything down the road.
After we buy your vehicle in Challis, it's either resold, parted out, or recycled through licensed facilities that meet all Idaho environmental regulations. We never abandon vehicles or dump them — every car we buy is handled responsibly.

Challis serves as the county seat and largest city in Custer County, Idaho. Founded in 1878 and named for surveyor A.P. Challis, the town has deep historical roots reflected in several buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places, including Twin Peaks Sports and the I.O.O.F. Hall. The city's population has fluctuated over recent decades, declining from 1,081 residents in 2010 to 902 in 2020 before rebounding slightly to 924 by 2023.
Challis is positioned along a scenic corridor, with US Highway 93 connecting it to Salmon to the north and Mackay to the south, while State Highway 75 leads southwest to Stanley. Together these highways form the Salmon River Scenic Byway.
The region has experienced significant seismic activity. On October 28, 1983, the Borah Peak earthquake measuring 6.9 on the moment magnitude scale struck at 8:06 am, causing extensive damage throughout the Challis-Mackay region. Challis experienced destruction of 11 commercial buildings and 39 homes with major damage, plus approximately 200 additional damaged houses. Tragically, two children were killed when a storefront collapsed as they walked to school. More recently, on March 31, 2020, a 6.5 magnitude earthquake centered 45 miles west of Challis shook the area, marking the second strongest earthquake ever recorded in Idaho.
Geographically, Challis encompasses 1.88 square miles and experiences a semi-arid climate with cold winters, hot summers, and low annual precipitation.
