Cambridge, located in Cowley County, Kansas, is a small city with deep roots in the region's railroad history. The community was established in 1880 when Benjamin H. Clover plotted the townsite on May 3rd, just a mile south of the settlement of Lazette. Named after Cambridge University in England, the city was organized around the Kansas City, Lawrence & Southern Railroad. The first post office opened that same year on January 30th. Today, Cambridge sits along US Route 160 at State Highway 7, approximately forty-five miles southeast of Wichita. The city covers just 0.17 square miles and experiences a humid subtropical climate characterized by hot, humid summers and mild winters. According to the 2020 census, Cambridge is home to 92 residents living in 43 households.
