Brooks is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Marion County, Oregon, located about nine miles north-northeast of Salem in the Willamette Valley's French Prairie region. The community traces its origins to Linus Brooks, an early settler who arrived from Illinois in 1850, born in Ohio in 1805. When the Southern Pacific Railroad established a station through the area, the community took his name. The Brooks post office was established in 1871, around the time the railroad reached the community. The town was platted with thirty blocks in 1878 and had a population of 135 residents at that time, though it never grew substantially and never incorporated.
Today, Brooks remains a small community with a population of 472 as of the 2020 census, up from 398 in 2010, and is part of the Salem Metropolitan Statistical Area. The local economy has traditionally centered on agriculture, and the area is home to NORPAC, a major fruit and vegetable processor. Oregon Route 99E passes through the east side of town, connecting residents to Salem and the nearby community of Woodburn.
Brooks offers notable attractions including Powerland Heritage Park, which houses several transport museums and the Brooks Historical Society, located in the former Southern Pacific railroad depot.
