Blue Diamond is a small census-designated place in Clark County, Nevada, with a population of 268 residents according to the 2020 census. The community sits on historically significant ground, located at the site of Cottonwood Spring, formerly known as Ojo de Cayetana or Pearl Spring, which served as a watering place and campsite along the Old Spanish Trail and the later Mormon Road connecting Mountain Springs and Las Vegas Springs.
The town's modern development began in 1923 when the Blue Diamond Corporation of California purchased a nearby gypsum mine. The company opened a wallboard manufacturing plant in 1941 and began constructing a company town the following year. The village of Cottonwood received a post office in 1942 under the name Blue Diamondville, though the name was shortened to Blue Diamond later that same year. Some references continued using the longer name into the 1950s.
Today, Blue Diamond maintains the character of a close-knit community with a mercantile and gas station that dates back to 1942, originally serving the miners who worked at the Blue Diamond Mine. The store has preserved its original external appearance and now displays historical photographs contributed by the Blue Diamond Historical Society, a volunteer organization.
