Tye is a small city in Taylor County, Texas, situated within the Abilene metropolitan statistical area. According to the 2020 census, the city is home to 1,176 residents. The community's name carries historical significance. Around 1900, the T & P Railroad conducted a contest to name one of its stations along the route. The winning name, Tye, was chosen to honor John P. Tye, a Methodist minister who served as the town's first postmaster. Before this naming, the settlement had been known as Tebo.
