Some car-buying services quote you high to get you interested, then the driver shows up and suddenly there's a problem with the catalytic converter or the transmission mounts and the offer drops by $300. We've heard this story from Patuxent River customers dozens of times. Our quote is based on an honest assessment, and that's the number we show up with — period.
Once you accept your offer, we'll set up a pickup time that works for you — often the same day or next day, especially if you're anywhere in Patuxent River or the surrounding Saint Marys County area. The Patuxent River, a tributary of the Chesapeake Bay, flows through Saint Marys County and stands as Maryland's largest and longest river entirely within the state. Originating 115 miles from the Chesapeake in the Maryland Piedmont hills near the intersection of Howard, Frederick, Montgomery, and Carroll counties, the river travels in a generally southeastward direction, crossing the urbanized corridor between Baltimore and Washington, D.C., before opening into a navigable tidal estuary near the colonial seaport of Queen Anne in Prince George's County. The river's 908-square-mile watershed, the largest completely within Maryland, supported a population of 590,769 in 2000 and continues to grow.
Native Americans have inhabited the Patuxent region since at least 1100 BC, as evidenced by archaeological discoveries at Pig Point, which contain some of the oldest known artifacts in the Mid Atlantic states, including pottery, arrow and spear points, and wigwam remains. The name Patuxent derives from the Algonquian language and likely means either "water running over loose stones" or "place where tobacco grows." European exploration began when Jamestown settler John Smith named the river "Pawtuxunt" following his 1608 voyage upriver. The Patuxent became an important colonial shipping port in the seventeenth century, with government operations established at its mouth. By the eighteenth century, colonial settlement extended upriver, and iron ore furnaces near present-day Laurel shipped pig iron downriver, contributing to the region's early industrial development.
