The community was established in 1906 when the railroad was extended to that point, and it took its name from Old Bargersville, Indiana. The town covers a total area of 4.93 square miles and is primarily served by the Center Grove Community School Corporation, with Center Grove High School as the main secondary education institution, though small sections are served by Franklin Community Schools. As of the 2020 census, the median age in Bargersville was 35.8 years, with roughly 30 percent of residents under age eighteen and 13 percent age sixty-five or older.
