Yadkinville is the county seat and most populous town in Yadkin County, North Carolina, located in the Piedmont Triad region. With a population of 2,997 at the 2020 census, this small rural community spans 2.7 square miles and is home to about 1,070 households.
The town's origins trace back to 1850 with the founding of Yadkin County. It was initially called Wilson to honor Louis D. Wilson, a legislator who died in the Mexican War. However, after discovering another town already held that name, residents changed it to Yadkinville in 1852. At the time the county seat was established, the area contained only one house. The town was officially incorporated in 1857.
Yadkinville's early infrastructure developed quickly. In 1853, William White of Hamptonville built the first courthouse, a two-story brick structure constructed from handmade bricks produced on a local farm north of town. This historic building stood until 1958, when it was demolished and replaced. The Second Yadkin County Jail, a notable historic structure, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.
