Our driver brings all the paperwork, handles the tow, and pays you before they leave. Under 30 minutes, start to finish.
Some car-buying services quote you high to get you interested, then the driver shows up and suddenly there's a problem with the catalytic converter or the transmission mounts and the offer drops by $300. We've heard this story from Van Lear customers dozens of times. Our quote is based on an honest assessment, and that's the number we show up with — period.
Once you accept your offer, we'll set up a pickup time that works for you — often the same day or next day, especially if you're anywhere in Van Lear or the surrounding Johnson County area. We run routes here regularly, so scheduling is rarely an issue. Give us a call and we'll lock in a time.
Transferring a car in Kentucky involves more forms than most people expect — especially if the title isn't straightforward or there's an outstanding loan. Our drivers carry everything, know the process cold, and make sure it's all done correctly so you're not on the hook for anything down the road.
After we buy your vehicle in Van Lear, it's either resold, parted out, or recycled through licensed facilities that meet all Kentucky environmental regulations. We never abandon vehicles or dump them — every car we buy is handled responsibly.

Van Lear is an unincorporated community in Johnson County, Kentucky, with deep roots in American coal mining history. The town was incorporated in 1912 and named for Van Lear Black, a director of Consolidation Coal Company. Its existence traces back to John Caldwell Calhoun Mayo, who purchased coal rights to land along Miller's Creek and sold them to Northern Coal and Coke, which eventually became part of Consolidation Coal Company. With financing from Van Lear Black's Fidelity Trust, the company built five miles of railroad and opened five underground coal mines between 1910 and 1946. These mines operated around the clock and drew workers from diverse backgrounds, including Irish, Italian, and Slavic immigrants alongside Appalachian and local residents. Notably, the mines were integrated, with both Black and white workers mining coal underground. During its boom years, Van Lear's population surpassed four thousand residents living in company-owned housing. Mining operations ceased after 1945, when Consolidation Coal merged with Pittsburgh Coal Company and divested its Miller's Creek properties. Company housing was offered to residents, many of whom purchased their homes, though most major buildings were demolished. Today Van Lear is home to roughly sixteen hundred residents who work in nearby communities including Paintsville, Prestonsburg, and Pikeville. The town's mining heritage lives on through cultural references, most notably in country music singer Loretta Lynn's "Coal Miner's Daughter," and through landmarks like the Coal Miners' Museum.
