Why Union Residents Choose Joe's

There's no shortage of people who claim they'll buy your car — but a lot of them will lowball you, ghost you after the inspection, or show up with a completely different number than what they quoted. We don't operate that way.

  • The number we quote is the number we pay — no last-minute changes at pickup
  • We show up on time and come to you, throughout Union
  • We bring all the DMV paperwork — you sign and you're done
  • Free towing always included — nothing deducted from your offer
  • Scheduled pickup at a time that works for you throughout Union and Knox County

Check Your Paperwork

Can I Sell My Car in Union?

Two questions. Tells you exactly where you stand.

Do you have the title in your name?

Is there still a loan or lien on the car?

This includes title loans, and any bank or lender listed as lienholder.

If you have the title and it's paid off

You're good to go

Clean title, no lien. Have the title, a photo ID, and the keys ready at pickup — our driver brings the rest of the paperwork.

If you've lost the title (and there's no lien)

Still workable

A missing title usually isn't a dealbreaker. Bring a photo ID and the vehicle registration if you have it. We handle no-title sales regularly — just tell us your situation when you call.

If there's still a lien or title loan on the car

Not yet — the lien has to be cleared first

A car with an active lien or title loan can't be sold until the lender releases it. Pay off the balance, get the lien release from your lender, and the title becomes yours to sell. Once that's done, give us a call — we'll buy it.

If you're not sure whether there's a lien

Easy to check

Look at the front of your title — if a bank or lender is printed in the lienholder section, there's a lien on the car. If you financed it and haven't paid it off, assume there is one. Still unsure? Call us and we'll work through it with you.

If you have no title and aren't sure about a lien

Check with your lender

Without the title in hand, the quickest way to know is to contact the lender you financed through, or request a title record from your state's motor vehicle office. If you never financed the car, there's almost certainly no lien. Call us and we'll help you sort it out.

Selling Your Title in Maine

No Title? You Can Still Sell Your Car in Union

A missing or lost title doesn't stop you from selling your car in Union. Title rules are set at the state level, and Maine has its own process for signing a car over, replacing a lost title, and selling when you're still making payments. When you sell to us, our driver brings the paperwork and walks you through every step at pickup — but if you want the full picture first, we put together a plain-English guide just for Maine.

Why Joe's Cash For Cars in Union?

We Do It Right — Every Time

We Pay What We Quote — Guaranteed

Some car-buying services quote you high to get you interested, then the driver shows up and suddenly there's a problem with the catalytic converter or the transmission mounts and the offer drops by $300. We've heard this story from Union customers dozens of times. Our quote is based on an honest assessment, and that's the number we show up with — period.

Scheduling Your Pickup in Union

Once you accept your offer, we'll set up a pickup time that works for you — often the same day or next day, especially if you're anywhere in Union or the surrounding Knox County area. We run routes here regularly, so scheduling is rarely an issue. Give us a call and we'll lock in a time.

We Handle All the Paperwork

Transferring a car in Maine involves more forms than most people expect — especially if the title isn't straightforward or there's an outstanding loan. Our drivers carry everything, know the process cold, and make sure it's all done correctly so you're not on the hook for anything down the road.

What Happens to Your Car

After we buy your vehicle in Union, it's either resold, parted out, or recycled through licensed facilities that meet all Maine environmental regulations. We never abandon vehicles or dump them — every car we buy is handled responsibly.

A Little About Union

The Story of Union, ME

Union is a town in Knox County, Maine, with a population of 2,383 according to the 2020 census. The area was originally part of the Muscongus Patent, granted in 1629, before becoming part of the Waldo Patent in the early 1700s. The first white settlers arrived in 1772, and the town was officially settled and named Taylor Town in 1774 by Dr. John Taylor from Massachusetts. It was reorganized as Sterlingtown in 1786 before being incorporated as Union later that same year. The town of Washington was formed from Union's territory in 1811.

Agriculture shaped Union's early economy, and the North Knox Agricultural and Horticultural Society established the first annual Union Fair on October 5, 1869. The town developed diverse manufacturing, with mills powered by water and factories producing carriages, leather goods, boots, shoes, and furniture. A war memorial was dedicated at the common on July 4, 1888. Union's bicentennial celebration on July 19, 1974, included the burial of a time capsule near the statue, intended to be opened on July 19, 2024. Today, Union is home to the Matthews Museum of Maine Heritage and continues to host its annual agricultural fair. The town also hosts Vose Library and is part of Maine School Administrative District 40. Notable Union natives include US Senator Obadiah Gardner, Harvard University librarian John Langdon Sibley, and Augustin Thompson, who created the soft drink Moxie.
