Summit is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in east-central Iron County, Utah. Named for its location on the divide between Parowan Valley and Cedar Valley, Summit began as grazing land for the nearby community of Parowan to the north. In the spring of 1858, Samuel T. Orton and other families settled at Summit Creek, establishing a farming community where they raised sheep, cattle, and kept bees. The community grew steadily, and by July 1877, an LDS ward was organized with Sylvanus C. Hulet serving as its first bishop. Education became an important community priority, beginning with a one-room log schoolhouse that was eventually replaced by a concrete building. From 1920 to 1936, students attended a two-room brick schoolhouse that served grades through the seventh. According to the 2020 census, Summit had a population of 170 residents. The climate in the area is characterized by mild temperature variations between highs and lows, with adequate rainfall throughout the year, classified as a marine west coast climate according to the Köppen Climate Classification system.
