Stetsonville is a small village nestled in Taylor County, Wisconsin. The community traces its roots to 1872, when the Wisconsin Central Railway built its line through the area on its way north to Ashland. The original stop was simply called "63," but the village took on its current name in 1875 after Isiah Stetson, who built the town's first sawmill. For over a century, residents relied on private wells for their water supply, but in the 1980s, petroleum contamination began appearing in some of these wells. Unable to fully clean the source, the village established a municipal water system in 2010 with assistance from the DNR, the USDA, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, and other funding sources. Today, Stetsonville is home to 563 residents according to the 2020 census. The village covers just 0.37 square miles and maintains the character of a tight-knit rural community in northern Wisconsin.
