Sebeka is a city in Wadena County, Minnesota, with a population of 741 as of the 2020 census. The city's name comes from an Ojibwe word meaning "town by the water." The Redeye River flows through the city, which covers a total area of 2.47 square miles. Three major routes serve Sebeka: U.S. Highway 71, State Highway 227, and the historic Jefferson Highway, now known as Jefferson Avenue.
The city grew around the K-line branch of the Great Northern Railway, which arrived in 1892. Logging was the area's first major industry, and the town's first store was the Anderson Pioneer Store. Sebeka was incorporated on March 19, 1898, when it had 233 residents. The population peaked at 818 in 1960 before declining to current levels.
A notable point of interest is a mural in Sebeka High School painted in 1938 by artist Richard Haines. The mural demonstrates the casein paint process used in fresco-painting and was one of many murals produced across the United States between 1934 and 1943 through the Treasury Department's Section of Painting and Sculpture, later renamed the Section of Fine Arts.
