Rockport is a home rule-class city in Ohio County, Kentucky, with roots stretching back to the early nineteenth century. The community began as a small settlement called Benton's Ferry along the Green River, and when a post office was established in 1863, the area adopted the name Rock Port, later shortened to one word. The city takes its descriptive name from the large rocks found on a nearby riverbank. Originally developed primarily along the river itself, Rockport has since shifted, with most of the city now situated on the bluff above the water. Located northeast of Central City along the Green River, the city covers 0.8 square miles and is traversed by U.S. Route 62. As of the 2020 census, Rockport had a population of 262 residents, reflecting the small-town character it has maintained throughout its history.
