Revelo is an unincorporated community in McCreary County, Kentucky with roots stretching back to the railroad era. The community began as a railroad siding for the Southern Railway, serving as a practical stop along the rail line. The name honors James Henry Oliver, who served as an executive Vice President of Southern's Kentucky Division. Tragically, Oliver was killed in a passenger train collision that occurred in Danville, Virginia in 1918. The original name given to the community, "Revilo," was an anadrome of Oliver's surname, a creative way to memorialize the railway executive. In 1943, the United States Postal Service standardized the spelling to its current form, Revelo, bringing consistency to official correspondence and documentation for residents of the area.
