Redwood is a small unincorporated community in Warren County, Mississippi, situated southeast of Twin Lake and just ten miles north of Vicksburg near the junction of U.S. Route 61 and Mississippi Highway 3. Though modest in size today with a population of 84 according to the 2020 Census, Redwood holds significant historical importance to the region. The area was the site of Fort Saint-Pierre, a French colonial outpost established in 1719 as part of La Louisiane française. The fort met its end a decade later when Native Americans destroyed it in 1729. The town itself was laid out by Thomas Redwood and initially marketed under the name Carthage. By the mid-nineteenth century, the settlement had developed into a small but active community, boasting two stores and a post office by 1850, with residents including carpenters and workers from the nearby Yazoo River raft trade. The town was also home to Ballground Plantation, which maintained slavery on its grounds until 1963. Today, Redwood remains part of the larger Vicksburg Micropolitan Statistical Area, connecting this quiet community to the broader region's economic and cultural life. The town was first officially recognized as a census-designated place in the 2020 Census.
