Mullen is a village in Hooker County, Nebraska, with a population of 500 as of the 2020 census. Situated in the Nebraska Sandhills, Mullen serves as the county seat. The village was laid out in 1888 when the railroad was extended to that point, and it was named after Charles D. Mullen, a Chief Clerk for the CB&Q Railroad's Division Superintendent. As the only settlement in Hooker County at the time, Mullen was designated the county seat, and the first courthouse was completed in 1889. The village was officially incorporated in 1907.
