Milligan is a small village located in Fillmore County, Nebraska. According to the 2020 census, the village had a population of 241 residents. The community came into existence in 1887 when the Kansas City and Omaha Railroad extended its line to that point. The village was named after Frank Milligan, a railroad official who played a role in the railroad's expansion.
Today, Milligan covers a total area of 0.24 square miles. The village is part of the Exeter-Milligan-Friend School District, which was formed in 2025 and serves Milligan along with the neighboring communities of Exeter and Friend. Prior to the 2002 consolidation that created the Exeter-Milligan School District, Milligan operated its own K-12 public school.
One of Milligan's notable landmarks is the Cesko-narodni sin-Milligan Auditorium, a historic building constructed in 1929 that continues to serve as a meeting hall for the Czech community.
