Millbrook is a city located in Elmore and Autauga counties in Alabama and part of the Montgomery Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area's history spans nearly two centuries. The first permanent home, Ellerslie, was built in 1818 by Georgia Congressman and Revolutionary War veteran Bolling Hall, followed by Thornfield in 1820. The former village of Robinson Springs, now within Millbrook's boundaries, became a summer retreat for Montgomery's wealthy families. Robinson Springs United Methodist Church was established in 1828 and rebuilt in its present form in 1848. In 1852, Robinson Springs hosted Alabama's first state fair. During the Civil War, Private Bolling Hall III mustered a company of men in June 1862 that eventually became part of the 59th Alabama Infantry, which he later commanded.
The post-World War I era brought gradual development to the tri-community of Millbrook, Coosada, and Robinson Springs, bringing schools, churches, and rail transportation. Modern growth accelerated with the introduction of Interstate 65 in the mid-1970s, which prompted Millbrook's formal incorporation as a city in 1977.
