McCool Junction is a small village located in York County, Nebraska. As of the 2020 census, the community was home to 453 residents. The village originated when the railroad was extended to the area in 1886, and it was officially platted that same year. The community took its name from Daniel McCool, a railroad official. By 1888, McCool Junction had become a significant rail hub, situated at the junction of two railroad lines, which helped establish its role as a regional transportation center.
