Hazel is a small home rule-class city located in southern Calloway County, Kentucky, positioned north of Paris, Tennessee, and south of Murray. According to the 2020 census, the city has a population of 390 residents within its total area of 0.37 square miles.
The town was established in 1890 as a stop along the Nashville, Chattanooga and St. Louis Railway, with its first post office opening that same year. The origins of Hazel's name remain unclear, though it may have been derived from the local hazel shrubs growing in the area or possibly from a daughter of either a railroad conductor or the town's first postmaster. The city was formally incorporated by the Kentucky General Assembly in 1911.
