Glyndon is a city in Clay County, Minnesota, with a population of 1,306 according to the 2020 census. The city was platted in 1872 when the railroad was extended to that point, marking the beginning of organized settlement in the area. A post office has served the community continuously since that same year. The city takes its name from Howard Glyndon, the pen name of poet Laura C. Redden Searing. Today, Glyndon covers 1.51 square miles and is served by U.S. Route 10 as a main route through town. Though the Amtrak Empire Builder, which operates between Seattle/Portland and Chicago, passes through Glyndon on BNSF tracks, it makes no stop in the city. The nearest Amtrak station is located in Fargo, ten miles to the west.
