Davison is a city in Genesee County, Michigan, situated as a suburb of Flint. With a population of 5,143 according to the 2020 census, this small community occupies 1.98 square miles and maintains its own municipal government and water system.
The city's roots trace back to 1842, when Eleazer Thurston first settled the area then known as Davison Station. The completion of the Chicago and Lake Huron Railroad line in 1871 marked the beginning of the settlement's growth, spurring the construction of the township's first saw mill that same year. The community quickly developed essential services, including its first doctor, merchant, and tavern in 1872. A post office opened on April 10, 1872, and was renamed simply to Davison on June 30, 1893. The Free Will Baptist Church, originally formed in 1859, relocated to a frame church building in the village that year.
Davison incorporated as a village on May 20, 1889. By the early twentieth century, it had developed into a modest town featuring Rosemoor Park with a race track for horses and later automobiles. The park hosted the county fair annually from 1919 until 1938. Davison was incorporated as a city on December 5, 1938, separating from Davison Township. The city was named after Judge Norman Davison, a Lapeer County judge and delegate to the 1835 state constitution convention.
