Davidson is a town in Tillman County, Oklahoma, located at the junction of U.S. routes 70 and 183 in the southwestern part of the county. The area opened for homesteading through a lottery in 1901, and the St. Louis and San Francisco Railway soon built a line in from Texas. A post office originally called Olds was established in 1902, but the name changed to Davidson in 1903 to honor A. J. Davidson, a railroad director. The town's government was not formally organized until 1916.
From its beginning, agriculture formed the economic backbone of Davidson. At its peak, the town supported five cotton gins and three grain elevators, along with a full range of businesses serving the community including movie theaters, newspapers, saloons, livery stables, blacksmiths, cafes, bakeries, and drug stores. Like many small agricultural towns, Davidson's population and commercial activity declined significantly over the decades as businesses closed. Today agriculture remains the primary economic base, with a local cooperative operating the one remaining grain elevator. The town experienced a minor flood in 1995. According to the 2020 Census, Davidson had a population of 241 residents. Nearby, about eleven miles to the east-northeast, lies Hackberry Flat Wildlife Management Area, a restored wetlands habitat encompassing 7,120 acres that serves as both a wildlife refuge and recreational area.
