If you've got a car sitting in your driveway that you don't want anymore, the hardest part is over — you've already decided to let it go. Joe's Cash For Cars makes everything after that as simple as it gets. You call, we make you an offer, you say yes, we show up and pay you on the spot. That's it.
We buy cars for cash all over Aptos and the surrounding Santa Cruz County area — running or not, any make, any model, free same-day towing.
A lot of people assume their old car isn't worth much — especially if it doesn't run, has body damage, or has been sitting for a while. But we buy cars in every kind of condition, and we almost always pay more than people expect. Give us a call at 619-762-2001 and find out exactly what your car is worth.
There's no shortage of people who claim they'll buy your car — but a lot of them will lowball you, ghost you after the inspection, or show up with a completely different number than what they quoted. We don't operate that way.
We service every part of Aptos, including:
Three steps from your first call to getting paid. No runaround, no hidden fees.
Tell us your car's year, make, model, and condition. We give you a real offer in under two minutes — no callbacks, no pressure.
Accept the offer and pick a time that works for you — often the same day or next. We come right to you in Aptos — home, work, wherever. You don't move an inch.
Our driver brings all the paperwork, handles the tow, and pays you before they leave. Under 30 minutes, start to finish.
Some car-buying services quote you high to get you interested, then the driver shows up and suddenly there's a problem with the catalytic converter or the transmission mounts and the offer drops by $300. We've heard this story from Aptos customers dozens of times. Our quote is based on an honest assessment, and that's the number we show up with — period.
Once you accept your offer, we'll set up a pickup time that works for you — often the same day or next day, especially if you're anywhere in Aptos or the surrounding Santa Cruz County area. We run routes here regularly, so scheduling is rarely an issue. Give us a call and we'll lock in a time.
Transferring a car in California involves more forms than most people expect — especially if the title isn't straightforward or there's an outstanding loan. Our drivers carry everything, know the process cold, and make sure it's all done correctly so you're not on the hook for anything down the road.
After we buy your vehicle in Aptos, it's either resold, parted out, or recycled through licensed facilities that meet all California environmental regulations. We never abandon vehicles or dump them — every car we buy is handled responsibly.

Aptos, an unincorporated community in Santa Cruz County, takes its name from the Ohlone language, meaning either "the people" or "meeting of two streams." The area was traditionally home to the Awaswas tribe of Ohlone people, and Aptos remains one of only three Native American place names that have survived in Hispanicized form in Santa Cruz County. The Spanish Portolá expedition passed through the region in 1769, with missionary Juan Crespi documenting their encounter with a creek lined with cottonwoods and alders.
In 1833, the Mexican government granted Rafael Castro the 6,656-acre Rancho Aptos, where he initially raised cattle. Following California's statehood in 1850, Americans leased Castro's land and developed a wharf, general store, and lumber mill. An 1853 leather tannery, whose main building now serves as a bed and breakfast, marked the area's growing commercial activity. The 1878 Bayview Hotel, built by Castro's daughter Augustia and her husband José Arano, became Santa Cruz County's oldest operating hotel and was designated a State Historic Monument in 1974.
From 1880 to 1920, redwood timber harvesting dominated the local economy, transforming Aptos into a boom town until the forests were depleted. Aptos also gained historical significance in 1905 when the Leonard Ranch hosted pioneering high-altitude glider experiments by John J. Montgomery. The late 1920s brought resort development, including Seacliff Park and Rio Del Mar Country Club, which featured the distinctive SS Palo Alto cement ship converted into an amusement pier. Rapid residential and commercial growth resumed in the early 1960s, establishing modern Aptos as it exists today.
