Abbeville, the county seat of Abbeville County, sits in South Carolina's Piedmont Upland region, about 86 miles west of Columbia and 45 miles south of Greenville. French Huguenot settlers established the city in 1764 at a location chosen by John de la Howe, naming it after a French town of the same name.
